Sherlock - fingers closeup
Title: Three Little Words
Author: Ariane DeVere
Word count: 221
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Sherlock belongs to way more powerful and wealthy people than me.

All I did was go offline for a while to watch Parade’s End ... honestly, you can’t leave your friends alone for an hour or so without them charging off on their own to write three 221B fics based on the Three Words that Mofftiss released yesterday. Typical.

And once I was back they left me with the nonchalant comment, “Well, you’ll just have to write a 221B with all three words in it, won’t you?” Oh yeah, sure, it’s not like I had anything better to do with my evening.

Turns out I didn’t:

Three Little Words

What he did was brilliant – of course it was, what else would you expect from him? But something didn’t add up, and once I got over the immediate grief of his loss, it didn’t take me all that long to smell a rat.

All the clues were there, of course – it just took me time before all the hints that he had been dropping for months before his disappearance began wedding together and making sense. And once I realised why he had done what he did, my admiration of his genius made me bow my head in shame that I hadn’t trusted him, hadn’t believed in him, hadn’t realised that he was the one who suffered the most in taking this action, not those he left behind.

But how can I bring him back when he obviously doesn’t want to be found?

This is the first time I’ve written on my website for months, and everybody who might have used this new entry for their own gain has already been dealt with. There’s only one person who needs to read this, and I can only hope that he will.

John Watson: if you are reading this, I swear to you that I will never lie to you again, and I’ll never leave you again.

John. I beg you.

Please come back.

Author’s Note: So just in case anyone didn’t know/care about the three words which Moffat and Gatiss released yesterday to describe the forthcoming Season 3 episodes, they are: Rat, Wedding and Bow (to rhyme with ‘cow’ and not ‘sew’).

atlinmerrick’s fic, based on the Wedding word, is here.

anarion’s, based on Bow, is one that she wrote some time ago but it’s here.

And verityburnsRat story isn’t currently available online, but maybe she’ll post it later.

Once again you fooled us all! I love your brain! <3

And verityburns’ Rat story isn’t currently available online, but maybe she’ll post it later.
We just have to pressure her ask her nicely. :D

You did it again! I mean, I should know by now, but you get me every time. So, so sad and perfect.

You posted it! Hurrah!!!

Can't believe you got me again with this one... surely there will come a day when I get wise to your schemes?

No... I don't think so, either.

So clever. Always, so damned clever. Love it!

Fact one: everything indicates that it's John who's speaking.
Fact two: it's Ariane who writes the story.
Obvious conclusion: it's not John who is speaking. QED.

I deeply regret that you're not like Atlin, because she is a kind and lovely person who knows that, when you write angst, you have to tell your readers from the beginning that John will come back. Because he'll come back, won't he? And he'll bring your Optional Epilogue (TM) with him.

And verityburns’ Rat story isn’t currently available online, but maybe she’ll post it later.
Well, you can be so persuasive when you want someone to publish something, can't you? ;-)

Ooh... I sense an 'I will if you will' opportunity here ;)

You go, Verity!! *waves pompoms*

I absolutely don't know what you allude to. Also, blackmail doesn't work with me. :D

You say 'blackmail', I say 'gentle encouragement'...

I hope our fics don't get lost in translataion :D

My thanks to Calliope, Erato, and you, for this stroke of sheer genius!
It's almost consoling me from the thought that, word no. 3 being Bow, "pronounced as in 'taking a bow'", a fourth seson is probably not in the plans.

I don't believe that that's anything more than a typical Mofftiss wind-up. Ben's already said he would like to do more, and Moffat and Gatiss said in an interview yesterday that they'd like to see the boys age through the years. I reckon that as long as Ben and Martin are up for it, and as long as the BBC keep providing a budget, there'll be new series every couple of years.

*sets up a shrine to the gods of the BBC and plans many sacrifices*

I don't see how they can do a 'Sherlock retires' fic, while BC is in his thirties!
That's my feeling, and I'm sticking to it.

John! Where are you? Come back!

Like Sherlock, I ... detected subterfuge here, but it wasn't John Watson. It was you, clever girl.

I maintain that "bow" does rhyme with sew, and that a velvet one will be the sum total of Sherlock's wardrobe in episode three. Either that, or it's a violin bow, and John will finally garrote him with the strings.

Personally I'd go for the first option. We need to do some serious bribing (or blackmailing, I'm not bothered which...) of the BBC wardrobe department.

Ach, you made me shiver! The thought of John pulling a Reichenbach on Sherlock...damn, that's a horror! Great job once again. ^^
